How far into the pregnancy can it be done?

Elective abortion is possible up to the completed 10th gestational week at the request of women over 16 years old. After 10 weeks, termination is only possible for medical reasons and requires committee approval.

If the patient is under 16, written parental or guardian consent is required.

Does my partner or parent need to know?

No. The decision is yours alone and is protected by medical confidentiality. No one else needs to be informed unless you choose to tell them.

How is it done — step by step

1. Gynecological examination and ultrasound — Confirms pregnancy, determines gestational age, rules out contraindications.
2. Vacuum aspiration — Most common method up to 10 weeks. Performed under brief general anesthesia, takes about 10 minutes, painless.
3. Medical abortion — A combination of medications (mifepristone + misoprostol) up to 9 gestational weeks. No surgery required.
4. Recovery — You can return to normal activities the next day. A follow-up check is scheduled 2 weeks after the procedure.

Preparation

• No food or drink for 8 hours before the procedure
• Bring a companion (due to anesthesia)
• Bring your ID and any medical records
• Inform the doctor of all medications you are taking

Contraception after abortion

Discuss contraception with your gynecologist immediately after the procedure. Ovulation can return within 10–14 days, making a new pregnancy possible before your first period. We recommend hormonal contraception or an IUD.
