Sterility in men
Diagnostic & Treatment

There are many factors that influence a man to have a reduced number or reduced motility of spermatozoa or a reduced ability of spermatozoa to fertilize an egg cell. The most common causes of male infertility include:
Impaired sperm production or function. These disorders include a low concentration of sperm (below 10 million per milliliter), abnormal number or reduced sperm motility (difficulty reaching the egg cell or reduced ability to penetrate the egg cell), varicocele (varicose veins that prevent normal cooling of the testicles), undescended testicles, testosterone deficiency (male hypogonadism), genetic defects or infections (most often Chlamydia and Gonorrhea from bacteria infection, and mumps (mumps virus) from viral infections lead to sterility). Unfortunately, in many cases, the cause of low sperm count cannot be found.
Sperm ejection disorder. The problem of sperm reaching the vagina can be for a number of reasons: sexual problems (erection problems, premature ejaculation, pain during intercourse (dyspareunia)), retrograde ejaculation (sperm goes into the bladder instead of going out), seminal duct obstruction, cystic fibrosis, anti-sperm antibodies, etc...
A man's general health and his lifestyle habits. Men often lead an untidy and unhealthy life. General health affects a man's fertility. These causes include insufficient nutrition (a lack of vitamin C, selenium, zinc or folate leads to sterility), obesity (increased body weight is associated with some causes of sterility), alcohol and drugs (closely related to poor health and infertility, cocaine and marijuana reduce the number and motility of spermatozoa, anabolic steroids directly affect the reduction of the testicles and decrease sperm production), tumor and tumor treatment, stress, years of life, etc.
